£150 and the rest, my monitor with G-Sync was double the price.

And regarding my 970, they said it tested fine on there rigs so I have asked for a refund as it would be useless for me. They 'advised' due to the age of my motherboard the pci-e x16 3.0 is a bit funny abou old 2.0 boards.

So unless you have an upto date board dont go for a 9 series.

No way?!? I wonder if a 970 by a different manufacturer would be OK?

Otherwise ... you going to get a 780? ;)

No Way - Is that actual truth about having a system board with pci-e x16 3.0 or are they talking complete bollocks just to say that the card is totally fine.

is so im 99.9% convinced that my motherboard only has 2.0 slots so i'd be screwed too....end of year upgrade i suspect.

From a bit of reading, it sounds like to get 3.0 working yeah you need your processor to be 3.0 compatible as well as the card and motherboard - so sounds like a full upgrade to get the best of out of it (or even get it working)

Could you not try the ASUS card as you tend to always get ASUS components? Which brand did you get again?

TBH its not worth it, the only reason I upgraded was for Irute to play Dragon Age at full graphics but now she needs to get back to studying so will have little time for gaming. I will upgrade when the new Intel processor is out around the end of the year.

The specification for PCI-E 3.x is fully backwards-compatible with 2.0 and 2.1, however unfortunately the spec isn't always implemented fully/properly by both card manufacturers and motherboard manufacturers, leading to a lot of cases where the backwards compatibility is completely broken :(

I have spotted a deal for the GTX 780Ti on overclockers @ £249.99:

According to GPU Benchmark, this card is actually better than the GTX970 and is a cheaper price - Hmm what do you reckon - Which card would you personally go for?

780 is better than the 970

The 970 is meant to be an upgrade to the 670.

The 780 is a beast of a card and that's a really good price.
