Oculus Rift Launched

Postby SpaceMadMonkey » Mon Mar 28, 2016 8:21 pm

Oculus Rift requires an opt-in to run games from other sources

Another platform us poor PC Gamers have to install to use Oculus Rift games, think I'll save my pennies for the Vive.

I imagine it'll be no different really for the Vive. You'll be tied to Steam in a similar way.

The only difference being that you already have Steam installed.

Indeed, the place where all my games are anyways, and I dont believe that Valve would force you to use Steam either but time will tell.

I'm already forced to use others because they are the software developers/publishers, im not going to start installing more libraries for hardware vendors aswell...

For Example, you've just brought the new Logitech Wheel, to use said wheel you have to install and play games from Logitechs online store. You can ofc request keys that you have purchased from other stores but you'll require installing and running the game from this location.

Oculus have stated that you're not forced to use their store.

You'll just need to tick a box to "allow apps from third parties" and then you can install apps from Steam or wherever.

Same kind of thing if you want to install an app on your Android phone, from somewhere other than the Google Store.

And with my Logitech wheel, I did need to install some Logitech Software.
The device was recognised by windows but not all features were available until after installing the software.

Pretty sure we all had similar misgivings about Steam when it launched too. :)

And we all hate Orgins and uPlay too.

But we still use them anyway, and they're not as painful as we would have people believe if they could hear us complaining about them.
