Upgrading...

Postby Extreme_One » Fri May 06, 2016 9:25 pm

Ordered my new monitor, and I can't bloody wait!
My current monitor is almost 10yrs old now and at 22" @ 1680x1050 it's really lacking.

I've ordered the Asus ROG Swift PG278Q 27" (2560x1440 @ 144Hz) G-Sync so it should feel like a significant improvement!

Now waiting to hear about the new Pascal cards from NVidia and will then decide where to go with a GPU upgrade.

Nice!!

I'm definitely getting 3x GTX 1080s... lol not, but 1 is definitely on the cards! :D

Not to impressed with the results I've been seeing of the new Intel Broadwell-E Processor, not for the upgrade costs anyhow and alot of people do rave how good an overclocker the Skylake is. Might have to review it once Brdwell-E is released.

I'm leaning towards the 1080 too (only 1 for me lol), just need to know the UK price.

I would like a new monitor to go with my new setup im planning but at the moment ive got a Benq 24" 144hz 1080p 1ms refresh rate monitor and am only looking for a significant upgrade from that. I'm talking 34" widescreen with better res that 1080p and 144hz with g-sync but there isnt anything on the market like that at the moment. The best out there is

Acer Predator X34 34" 3440x1440 IPS 75Hz G-Sync
Acer Predator Z35 35" 2560x1080 VA 144Hz G-Sync
Acer XB280HK 28" 3840x2160 TN 60Hz G-Sync

The problem with the Z35 is that its 35" with the lowest res meaning you'll probably see the pixels...

Going from your old 22" monitor to a 27" 144hz G-Sync will be amazing!

I'm pretty sure the IPS G-Sync displays are only 60Hz at present.

As you say, the pixel density on the Z35 is unacceptable.

And the XB280HK is only 60Hz too.

Those curved 21:9 displays are expensive!!! ;)

Had a quick mess about with my new monitor. It's great and feels enormous compared to the old one.

The 770 struggles a bit at 1440p though so I'll need to run at below the native res in modern games until I get a new GPU.

Still, 1080p is an improvement over the 1050p I'm used to. :D

There were several older games I used to run in extreme DSR resolutions so I'm sure they'll run fine in 1440p.
I bet TitanFall would look great!

34" Asus PG348Q NVIDIA G-Sync, 100Hz Curved IPS Panel, 3440x1440

Seems I was wrong about IPS panels being only 60Hz

Not wrong about the price tag though.

I mean would you buy this or would you buy a VR headset?
