PC suicides while playing TF2

Postby MC Burger » Sat Jun 02, 2012 11:38 pm

Hi
I am having trouble with TF2 and would appreciate any help/advice...
When I play TF2 for more than about 1 hour my PC overheats, gives me framerate loss and finally conducts a hardshutdown. I figured I could just lower my settings, but everytime I try TF2 crashes. :(
Thanks in advance.

ps: there is varying time between each of the phases

Yeah sounds like a computer problem, and not an internet problem?
Does that happen with any other game/programme you use?
Also last halloween there was a glitch where mac users instantly got disconnected from the tf2 game just as they joined, due to the halloweeny-type maps which was later patched :)

I guess you could either make space by deleting stuff or upgrade your computer or even get a new one (a bit steep, I know).
Maybe try playing tf2 on another computer with your internet to check it's not the internet problem?

'Internet problem' will not cause a PC to shutdown.

First thing I would do is check for a build up of dust in the PC case, this will cause overheating.

Thanks for the advice. I googled "Dust in Laptops" and found out that there are a lot of people having the same problem as me. I didn't opening yet because I had to prepare fo an exam but I guess I can tell by tomorrow if it worked.
(I know it can't be internet connected or TF2 specific since it happens in Skyrim and Shogun2 too even if I use someone elses connection)

What model laptop is it? Some are easier to open than others.

It sounds as if either your CPU or GPU is reaching Tc while playing TF2 which triggers a hard reboot or shutdown by the chipset controller.

Like Ex said with a laptop, dust is your number one enemy when fighting high temperatures. Playing in a room with a low ambient temperature and with the laptop having lots of space around it can also help.

I agree with this.

So, he has to play from inside a extremely large fridge?
